USS Tulare at Suisun Bay

Tulare at Suisun Bay
After over a half century since commissioning Tulare remains afloat and alive in the hearts and minds of many of her crew. Long after most naval vessels have reached their final disposition; sale to other navies, scrap, targets or artificial reefs Tulare continues to contribute. Over the past decade there have been several visits to Tulare at her Maritime Administration Reserve Fleet mooring. Tulare has made significant contributions of parts and equipment to other historic navy ships including USS Joseph P Kennedy Jr DD-850 and USS Hornet CV-12. Early in April 2009 a team of volunteers from the USS Hornet CV-12 Museum paid a visit to Tulare in search of 3"-50 Caliber gun mounts. The Hornet team selected Tulare 's two after gun mounts to contribute to the restoration process; returning Hornet to her original armament configuration.
